How to find Mt. Fuji over Sagami Plain

Between Shin-Yokohama and Odawara, Mt. Fuji can appear beyond the alluvial plain made by the Sagami River, framed by the Tanzawa and Hakone mountains. It is the first Fuji worth looking for after leaving Tokyo: not the big main event near Shin-Fuji, but a distant view with its own thrill.

If you are traveling from Tokyo toward Shin-Osaka, start watching the Seat E · mountain side window as you approach Shin-Yokohama → Odawara. If you are traveling toward Tokyo, the order is reversed.

Why this view matters

Mt. Fuji over Sagami Plain is one of the window views that make the Tokaido Shinkansen more than a transfer. The train moves fast, so visibility depends on weather, seat position, and timing.
