How to find Hikone Castle

After Maibara, Hikone Castle's keep may appear small beyond the town on the Seat E side. It is not a big, obvious view; that is what makes spotting it satisfying. For a few seconds, the history of eastern Lake Biwa enters the window.

If you are traveling from Tokyo toward Shin-Osaka, start watching the Seat E · mountain side window as you approach Maibara → Kyoto. If you are traveling toward Tokyo, the order is reversed.

Why this view matters

Hikone Castle is one of the window views that make the Tokaido Shinkansen more than a transfer. The train moves fast, so visibility depends on weather, seat position, and timing.
